Film Review–Deadpool

Let me just say that this movie totally surpassed my expectations and has quickly become my new favorite antihero/superhero movie.

Deadpool follows Wade Wilson, who’s a former special forces operative turned mercenary.  Wade ends up meeting an escort by the name of Vanessa Carlysle and quickly falls in love with her.  He ends up proposing and she accepts but then Wade collapses, and after a hospital trip they find out Wade has terminal cancer, and he doesn’t have much time left.  Vanessa stays by his side, hopeful that they will find some sort of experimental treatment or something that can help him, but Wade is not as positive, and the last thing he wants is for Vanessa to watch him die, so he nearly leaves, giving up to die on his own.  That is until a man approaches him and tells him that not only can he be cured but he can also become a superhero, Wade, figuring that it can’t really hurt him, ends up listening to the man and he ends up in a laboratory, where things don’t seem as nice as it was explained.  Wade meets Ajax and Angel, who then inject him with a serum and perform all kinds of terrible things on him to try to bring out the latent mutant genes.  Things that I won’t spoil happen, and thus is the birth of Deadpool, the antihero, on a search to find Ajax, aka Francis, the man who, although cured his cancer, simultaneously ruined his life.  Deadpool goes on a rampage of sorts in search of this man to avenge himself and also stop him from harming other people like Wade.

So when I first found out about them making this movie, I was half really excited because Deadpool is one of my favorite Marvel characters, and half hesitant because of his treatment in the Wolverine Origins movie.  I’m so glad they went a whole different way with this movie and actually made Deadpool into the character that he should be, a sarcastic, loud mouth, bad-ass.  The movie leaves you laughing from start to finish, even in the more serious moments.  The action is pretty much nonstop and there’s definitely a gore factor.  I highly recommend this to anyone who’s a fan of the comics or people who are fans of action/comedies.
